Egyptian artist TUL8TE has released his new 10-track album “Sadeek El Bernameg” (صديق البرنامج). The concept project takes his relationship problems into the world of Egyptian late-night radio, with songs, telephone calls and radio interludes telling one connected story.
A late-night radio story about love
TUL8TE appears as a nameless “friend of the programme” who calls Egyptian radio host Oussama Mounir to explain the relationship that brought him there. The album moves through attraction, miscommunication, heartbreak and reconciliation as the caller gradually shares more of his story.
Musically, “Sadeek El Bernameg” continues the sound fans have come to expect from TUL8TE. Egyptian pop melodies are mixed with Mediterranean influences and Spanish guitar, while “Kobtan” has a clear dabke sound.
The album’s main collaborations is “Haneish,” a duet with Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna. The song follows two people imagining a future together before reality begins to complicate their relationship.
